Don’t you just love Mondays after long weekends? snark.
Let’s ease into this last Monday of November 2009
with Ledisi-In the Morning/It’s Alright.
Ledisi Anibade Young (pronounced /ˈlɛdɨsiː/) is a R&B singer-songwriter from New Orleans. Her first name means “to bring forth” or “to come here” in Yoruba.[1] Ledisi is known for her jazz influenced vocals. In 1995, Ledisi formed the group known as Anibade. When trying to get the group signed to a major label, she had no luck which result in her and Sundra Manning starting LeSun Records. Along with her group Anibade, Ledisi released an album entitled Take Time. The album gained major airplay from local radio stations.[citation needed]
In 2000, Ledisi released her first album, entitled Soulsinger: The Revival. Ledisi and her group toured in 2001, performing various shows.[1] In 2002, Ledisi released her sophomore album, Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue. The album won her an award for “Outstanding Jazz Album” at the California Music Awards.
In 2007, Ledisi signed a major record deal with Verve Forecast and later released her third in August 2008, entitled Lost & Found, which has sold 216,894 copies.[2] In 2008, Ledisi released her Christmas album, It’s Christmas.

Hmmm, I really think that they're thinking about Angelina's Daddy. I don't believe it…and she knows that she's got African blood somewhere in her mix anyway…with lips like that.

They tend get it right about people's “personal issues,” and gossip which is cool. They're also not pretending to be “reputable.” They are gossip rags.
November 30th, 2009
Amen, my thoughts exactly.
November 30th, 2009
those lips are indeed spectacular for a caucasian
November 30th, 2009
how can any 'publication' be so right about individuals 'personal' issues when the individuals involved are big time celebrities and wealthy folks? What does this say about their investigative/journalistic methods..just what are they doin and promising the so called 'insiders' close enough to the celeb to have such devastatingly accurate intimate details of their lives?

indeed

This seems to be the only way they can get a white champion, no? They cook up a scheme to disqualify the strongest world level athlete? This is like what they did to Ali, only worse, in the sense of how they simply do not what either of the Williams women being the global face of tennis. Racial discrimination is a real travesty.

I agree with you.
The SS has a role. The SocialSecretary had a bigger role. When individuals do not follow standard procedures these are the types of errors that can occur. It is really sad to see such disrespect amongst those serving this white house. No one has to look like amateurs if the written format of all aspects of formal state dinners is followed. They were written down just to prevent these type of breaches in security.

What does it say? It says that “sex and sensationalism” sells.
If it's marital infidelity or personal vices (Oprah's weight, a celebrity's drug addiction, etc.), they are all over it. AND People will BUY it.
The only time these issues have real, political resonance and impact the greater population is when the celebrities are politicians. John Ensign, Mark Sanford and John Edwards were time-bombs waiting to happen.
If Edwards had been the nominee and all of his sordid tales had been exposed after receiving the nod, we might have had President McCain and Vice-President Palin. That shyt does scare the Heel out of me.
Politicians sign-up for the scrutiny. Tiger Woods' infidelity doesn't really phase me. It may impact his endorsements and mess up some his money. The consequences to the greater popoulation are nil.

Breaking News: Tiger Woods won't play in his own golf tournament this week due to injuries from a car crash, his agent says

I understand that it sells. I really am wondering what are they offering for this level/pattern of accuracy? Not only do they have to have access to individuals close enough to the celeb but don't they have to be writing some big checks to get these type of juicy details that are straight up on the mark?
November 30th, 2009
Your commentary is on point.

No doubt, it's money–btw, they never found the folks in LA who leaked Michael Jackson's private information after his death.

IMHO, MsRogers might be all that as an 'executive fashionista' but she is the first WHSocialSecretary I am aware fo that has ever been written up so much while they are IN the WH. Most of us can't even tell you the name of the Clintons nor Bushes social secretaries, can we? Didn't know Regan or Nixons either. Only know that Balridge woman cause she was with JackieO otherwise, those folks are in the background.
I haven't ever understood why she received the level of publicity she has. I could see it more with Jarrett as she is on the President's team. But Ms.Rogers is suppose to not be seen or heard. She is suppose to be the invisible hand that makes the FirstLady carry off events with aplomb to such a fine degree that no one even thinks anyone was involved except the FirstLady. Instead, we have interviews and photo spreads about Ms.Rogers 'ideas'. I don't think so. Her job is to execute with precise to know the most minute detail of how things are customarily done in the WH with all the tradition flourish so that the FirstLady always is seen as the hostess with the mostess and the finest attention to detail.
Instead we have been treated to lots of ostentatiousness without the usual elegance, class and grandness the WH has been known for globally. Rogers is not serving this administration well, she needs to go home to the Galpians and ZuluSocialAidandPleasureClub where they appreciate outrageous acts passing for social events.

The dress she wore the night of the StateEvent proved Rogers has serious issues with fashion taste. That was a really horrid number.

“Ms.Rogers is suppose to not be seen or heard. She is suppose to be the invisible hand that makes the FirstLady carry off events with aplomb to such a fine degree that no one even thinks anyone was involved except the FirstLady. “
Say it again.

In Job Hunt, College Degree Can’t Close Racial Gap
By MICHAEL LUO
Johnny R. Williams, 30, would appear to be an unlikely person to have to fret about the impact of race on his job search, with companies like JPMorgan Chase and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago on his résumé.
But after graduating from business school last year and not having much success garnering interviews, he decided to retool his résumé, scrubbing it of any details that might tip off his skin color. His membership, for instance, in the African-American business students association? Deleted.
“If they’re going to X me,” Mr. Williams said, “I’d like to at least get in the door first.”
Similarly, Barry Jabbar Sykes, 37, who has a degree in mathematics from Morehouse College, a historically black college in Atlanta, now uses Barry J. Sykes in his continuing search for an information technology position, even though he has gone by Jabbar his whole life.
“Barry sounds like I could be from Ireland,” he said.
That race remains a serious obstacle in the job market for African-Americans, even those with degrees from respected colleges, may seem to some people a jarring contrast to decades of progress by blacks, culminating in President Obama’s election.
But there is ample evidence that racial inequities remain when it comes to employment. Black joblessness has long far outstripped that of whites. And strikingly, the disparity for the first 10 months of this year, as the recession has dragged on, has been even more pronounced for those with college degrees, compared with those without. Education, it seems, does not level the playing field — in fact, it appears to have made it more uneven.
