The White House staff member whose job was to supervise the guest list for state dinners and clear invitees into the events says she was stripped of most of her responsibilities earlier this year, prompting her to resign last June.

The account of Cathy Hargraves, who formerly served as White House "assistant for arrangements," raises new questions about whether changes that she says were made by President Obama's social secretary, Desiree Rogers, may have contributed to the security lapses that permitted Virginia socialites Michele and Tareq Salahi to crash the state dinner for India's prime minister last week and get themselves photographed with the president.

It's starting to come out that the 'gate-crashing' couple and PBHO go back a few years. Pictures of them together as far back as IL state senate days.

Could it be that the couple were passed at checkpoints based on verbal orders from WH staff, then the WH was embarrassed by the pics showing up on Facebook? The media twig to the fact that the couple wasn't on the published list, so the WH goes into CYA, blame it on the Secret Service mode?

Were the Salahis seated for dinner? That would tell a lot.

Flame me if you must but this breech was in large part Desiree Rogers' fault. Her office is part of the security apparatus at these dinners. Reportedly she herself confirmed that she had no person at the gate with the guest list checking people. This was her responsibility to assign someone to the post. Instead she was running around showing off her dress instead of guarding for the barbarians at the gates.

She's a glamorous woman, strong and all, but she needs to get it together. Yes, the Secret Service is overloaded, but if she would have done what other Social Secretaries traditionally do, which is to have someone with the guest list at the entrance greeting everyone and checking to make sure they are on the list. If someone is sketchy you refer them to the Secret Service. She made the administration look amateurish and threatened the lives of those in the Line of Succession

Just check this shit out. Police in Tacoma, WA are looking for a guy who has a history of violence, etc., in Arkansas as "a person of interest" in the murder of the four cops in the coffee shop this morning.

He also was recently charged in Pierce County in connection with the assault of a police officer and the rape of a child, according to the statement.

According to a local prosecutor in Arkansas and past articles published by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, a repeat offender named Maurice Clemmons had his 95-year prison sentence commuted in 2001 by then-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee's goose is cooked for this. Huckabee was the best shot of the Repubs in 2012 b/c PBO already took any moderate Republican that was sane and non-threatening into his administration. PBO wasn't taking any chances: Jim Huntsman--former moderate Republican Utah governor--who is fluent in Mandarin is his ambassador to China and John McHugh, who was well-respected in the House--third in succession in the House I think--is his Secretary of the Army--He's the guy that was replaced in NY-23 race.

Huckabee basically could repackage conservatism in that he's friendly and has some "liberal" tendencies--he supported legalization of undocumented immigrant children or in-state tuition for their children. He has that Ned Flanders, aw shucks quality about him while having understanding of policy since he didn't quit his job as Arkansas governor--he did two full terms. He also has a great personal story, having lost weight--naturally--through proper diet and exercise. He coulda been a contender. But this is his Willie Horton moment and he's going to get killed in the Repub primaries for this. The comments on Politico say it all: He's a Democrat b/c he believes in pardoning criminals.

Huckabee might be a good ole, aw-shucks boy, but he's deceitful. I don't like him. There are other places picking up on the 'Willie Horton' angle. Politico was just the first I saw; otherwise I wouldn't have linked there. Can't stand it.

Not saying that Huckabee should be president but he had the most possibility: He's more genuine and authentic than Romney who has flipped and flopped to no end; he's more intelligent than Sarah Palin; is more morally sound that married 3 times Giuliani. He basically could come off as moderate and somewhat populist policy-wise while getting the religious right since he's an ordained Baptist pastor. Think a little right to Bill Clinton but more religious. Basically, Huckabee is what Sarah Palin should be aspiring to if she would read a darn book, the BBC daily and a map.

This is actually good news for Obama; one less sane Republican blocking him.

Hmm, the Tiger Woods thing just isn't adding up. He released a statement today:

As you all know, I had a single-car accident earlier this week, and sustained some injuries. I have some cuts, bruising and right now I'm pretty sore. This situation is my fault, and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I'm human and I'm not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn't happen again.

This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way. Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible.

The officers were sitting in the cafe at a strip mall near the Tacoma suburb of Lakewood with their laptop computers, preparing for their day shifts, when a gunman came in and opened fire, Pierce County Sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.

"This was a targeted, selected ambush," Troyer said, adding that customers and baristas were in the Forza Coffee shop at the time but no one else was shot at or injured.
