LOS ANGELES (AP) - Mike Tyson allegedly hit a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport and was detained on suspicion of battery Wednesday, police said.

The paparazzo told police that Tyson struck him once, airport police spokesman Sgt. Jim Holcomb said. The photographer fell to the ground and was treated for a cut to his forehead at a hospital.

Tyson's spokeswoman Tammy Brook said the boxer was traveling with his wife and 10-month-old child Wednesday afternoon when he was attacked by an overly aggressive paparazzi. He acted in self-defense to protect his child, she said.

Tyson and the unnamed photographer both want to press charges for misdemeanor battery, police said.

"There's a lot of different versions to this story and that's all going to come out later," Holcomb said. "There were numerous witnesses and that's what this whole case is going to depend on."

Tyson was being held at the airport police station and will be booked and released later, Holcomb said.

"Right now he is very compliant, very cooperative. He's just waiting in one of our holding cells," he said.

The photographer will also be booked once he is released from the hospital, police said.

Official: Obama won't take any current war options

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama does not plan to accept any of the Afghanistan war options presented by his national security team, pushing instead for revisions to clarify how and when U.S. troops would turn over responsibility to the Afghan government, a senior administration official said Wednesday.

Obama is still close to announcing his revamped war strategy — most likely shortly after he returns from a trip to Asia that ends on Nov. 19.

But the president raised questions at a war council meeting Wednesday that could alter the dynamic of both how many additional troops are sent to Afghanistan and what the timeline would be for their presence in the war zone, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss Obama's thinking.

The president is considering options that include adding 30,000 or more U.S. forces to take on the Taliban in key areas of Afghanistan, and to buy time for the Afghan government's small and ill-equipped fighting forces to take over. The other three options on the table are ranges of troop increases, from a relatively small addition of forces to the roughly 40,000 that the top U.S. general in Afghanistan prefers, according to military and other officials.

The key sticking points appear to be timelines and mounting questions about the credibility of the Afghan government.

Administration officials said Wednesday that Obama wants to make it clear that the U.S. commitment in Afghanistan is not open-ended. The war is now in its ninth year and is claiming U.S. lives at a record pace as military leaders say the Taliban has the upper hand in many parts of the country.

The options presented to Obama by his war council are now likely to be amended.

Military officials say one approach is a compromise battle plan that would add 30,000 or more U.S. forces atop a record 68,000 in the country now. They described it as "half and half," meaning half fighting and half training and holding ground so the Afghans can regroup.

The White House says Obama has not made a final choice, though military and other officials have said he appears near to approving a slightly smaller increase than war commander Gen. Stanley McChrystal wants at the outset.

Among the options for Obama would be ways to phase in additional troops, perhaps eventually equaling McChrystal's full request, based on security or other conditions in Afghanistan and in response to pending decisions on troops levels by some U.S. allies fighting in Afghanistan.

The White House has chafed under criticism from Republicans and some outside critics that Obama is dragging his feet to make a decision.

Obama's top military advisers have said they are comfortable with the pace of the process, and senior military officials have pointed out that the president still has time since no additional forces could begin flowing into Afghanistan until early next year.

Under the scenario featuring about 30,000 more troops, that number most likely would be assembled from three Army brigades and a Marine Corps contingent, plus a new headquarters operation that would be manned by another 7,000 or more troops, a senior military official said. There would be a heavy emphasis on the training of Afghan forces, and the reinforcements Obama sends could include thousands of U.S. military trainers.

Another official stressed that Obama is considering a range of possibilities for the military expansion, and that his eventual decision will cover changes in U.S. approach beyond the addition of troops. The stepped-up training and partnership operation with Afghan forces would be part of that effort, the official said, although expansion of a better-trained Afghan force long has been part of the U.S objective and the key to an eventual U.S. and allied exit from the country.

With the Taliban-led insurgency expanding in size and ability, U.S. military strategy already has shifted to focus on heading off the fighters and protecting Afghan civilians. The evolving U.S. policy, already remapped early in Obama's tenure, increasingly acknowledges that the insurgency can be blunted but not defeated outright by force.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Wednesday he expects Obama to announce his decision on sending more U.S. troops to Afghanistan within days.

Brown told lawmakers in the House of Commons on Wednesday that he had recently spoken to Obama, "and I expect him to announce in a few days what his numbers for Afghanistan will be."

Asked about Brown's comment, the White House referred to press secretary Robert Gibbs' statement Tuesday that Obama's decision was still weeks away.

The head of the U.S. Central Command also said a decision is near.

Gen. David Petraeus spoke to CNN on Wednesday shortly before heading into the White House war council session, where troop numbers were under discussion.

"I think we are indeed nearing a decision on this very important topic," Petraeus said.

Sammy Sosa Responds to Bleaching Allegations

Baseball great Sammy Sosa spoke to Spanish station Primer Impacto yesterday regarding the dramatic lightening of his complexion. Defending his newfound facade, Sosa shot down claims that he is suffering from vitiligo, a skin disorder, and actually attributed his new look to a moisturizer.

According to the New York Daily News, Sosa said:

I'm doing well, doing well, thanks to God. ... I use a cream to keep my skin smooth and soft. I apply it before I go to bed. When I was playing for Chicago all those years, I was in the sun a lot for 1 o'clock games. The flashes (from the cameras) also made my skin look lighter.
He also went on disprove speculation that he is trying to become the next Michael Jackson by bleaching his skin:

Not at all, I respect him very much. I'm not a racist. I'm not like that. I'm just a happy person.

What about those green contacts he's been sporting as of late? Sosa deflected critics by retorting that he was just trying something different. "I'm not trying to be superficial," he said.

Who knew a "cream" could literally wipe the black off of your face. I mean, is this guy serious? If I were to put on a cream that drastically altered my complexion, I'd probably sue -- not to mention take the quickest route to my dermatologist. I think it speaks volumes that Sosa plans on being the spokesperson for the "cream."

Sosa, who would not tell...the name of the cream he uses, did say that it is European and that he is in negotiations to market the product.

I get a headache just imagining how it is possible that any person would think this type of change has anything to do with keeping one's skin "smooth and soft." My people, my people, it is 2009, the year of the first black president. Must we still yearn for the Europeanization of our features? If we want to take it back to yesteryear -- beyond Michael -- let's take it back to the black empowerment years of the '60s and proclaim in our minds and hearts that we are black and beautiful. As God made us.

NEW YORK — Donald Trump says he's partnering with the TV One network on a reality dating series starring TV diva Omarosa.

Having proven herself as a fiery contender on Trump's "The Apprentice," she now will be the one choosing from contenders who compete to marry her on "Omarosa's Ultimate Merger."

Created by Trump Productions, the eight-episode show will follow Omarosa as she puts a dozen rival bachelors through challenges.

The series is scheduled to premiere in the spring on TV One, a basic cable network targeting black viewers.

Fairy Tale Wedding Goes Wrong: Tampa Nuptials End With Grandma in Choke Hold

Forget that the recent wedding reception of Tampa, Fla., couple Tasha Johnson and Markeith Brown was held at a restaurant called the Rusty Pelican -- it was apparently a classy, fairy tale-themed event, complete with a horse and carriage, romantic vows exchanged at an oceanside gazebo and a ballroom reception.

The affair remained classy until around 9 p.m., when Tampa police say Brown began throwing money on the dance floor for children to pick up, which angered one of his guests. When the groom and his brother asked the guest to leave, a fight broke out that escalated and spilled into the parking lot. Cops came -- but it doesn't end there. After guests left, the fight started up again in a hotel parking lot, where the groom's 74-year-old grandmother was put in a choke hold after trying to break up the brawl.

At least one person has been arrested and one was treated in the emergency room as a result of this wedding brawl, but you might be happy to learn that Tasha and Markeith, "the money thrower," are enjoying their honeymoon in the Bahamas right now.
